The Birth of Maven: A Journey of Love, Family, and Rediscovery
Maven was born out of a deep-rooted desire to create a business that truly meant something, but the path to its creation was far from straightforward. It’s a story of professional expertise, personal transformation, and the profound impact of family love.
For 35 years, I was immersed in the world of high-end fashion, multi-level management and customer service. My career was my identity, shaping my understanding of not just products and services, but of people and their desires. Customer service became more than just a job—it was an art form, a way to connect with individuals and brighten their lives through attentiveness and care.
However, life has a way of taking unexpected turns. I never imagined myself as a stay-at-home mom. It wasn’t a path or title I had desired or even considered. I was a career woman, driven by my professional achievements. But as life often does, it threw me a curveball that would ultimately lead to the birth of Maven.
Transitioning to being a stay-at-home mom to my two amazing boys was both devastating and beautiful. Initially, it felt like a loss of identity. The career I had built, the professional persona I had cultivated—suddenly, it all seemed to be on hold. Yet, in this challenging transition, I found unexpected blessings. My loving and supportive husband stood by me, encouraging me to embrace this new chapter. In the quiet moments between diaper changes and school runs, the seed of Maven began.
However, the true inspiration and meaning behind Maven comes from a source close to my heart—my grandfather. He was an incredible fixture in my life, the ultimate cheerleader who supported me in every endeavor. I can still vividly remember how, every time he walked into my home, he would declare with a beaming smile, “You are such a maven!” At the time, I didn‘t fully grasp the meaning of the word, but I knew it was good. His smile was big, his pride palpable, and his happiness infectious.
It wasn‘t until later that I looked up the actual definition of “maven” and discovered its true significance. A maven is someone who is experienced and knowledgeable in a particular field. This revelation was a moment of profound connection—between my grandfather‘s perception of me, my years of experience in the fashion industry, and the future I envisioned for myself.
The seed of Maven as a business began to take root. I wanted to create something that would not only utilize my expertise but also honor the unwavering support and belief my grandfather had in me. The goal was clear: to build a platform that would help people feel joy through gifting all while providing the kind of exceptional, personalized service that had become my hallmark over the years.
Bringing Maven to life was a journey filled with both excitement and challenges. It‘s a testament to the power of knowledge, experience, and genuine care for others. When customers engage with me, they‘re partaking in an experience crafted from decades of industry insight and a deeply personal mission to bring an expression of pure joy to others.
To all who read this: may you recognize the “maven” within yourself, embrace the unexpected turns in your journey, and find ways to share your unique gifts with the world. And as you do, know that Maven will be here, growing alongside you, ready to inspire, support, and celebrate every step of the way.
Love, Laura
